About Kingston Red
Jay here, from Kingston Red reaching out to you to let you know a little about myself, a Brooklyn based graphic designer who has been in the design space over 12+ years now. Started out creating flyers for parties and t-shirt graphics for friends and associates who would request them. In the beginning I had no real intentions of making a living as a graphic designer but it sort of happened naturally over time as I became more interested and intrigued with various design methods and mediums. Ended up taking a photography course and a few design classes, and the rest is history. I was born (what some may call) “Jamerican” in Bronx, NY to a Jamaican father and American mother who held down careers as a salesman/entreprenuer and registered nurse. They both have been a positive influence and inspired me my entire life. I attended Howard University and recieved a B.F.A. in graphic design, then shortly after attended Grad School at Pratt Institute and studied communications design.
From that point on I have been fortunate and blessed by God as a designer to work and conduct business with some pretty decent companies. Like Euro RSCG, Disney|ABC and Universal Records to name a few. Having the opportunity to develop and build with some of the most creative minds in the industry has assisted in structuring a solid foundation with steady growth, which enabled me to transition into other areas of design, as sportswear. It has been the ultimate learning experience that opened doors for countless opportunities, such as designing private label and apparel for Target, JCPenny, Walmart, Macy’s and the list goes on. Hasn’t always been easy though, the real struggle for me has always been consistency. But I have come to learn as a freelance designer that doing a few things on a daily basis, even when you are not busy, goes a long way at the end of the day.

This site has gone through a few changes over the years, first it was strickly about selling tees in the initial stages, but currently I have been rethinking ways to expand long term through blogging and adding some original content for designers, artist and anyone who deems themselves creative. It will definitely serve as a source of information and platform to motivate, share my experiences and inspire the artist in you. Doesn’t matter whether you are a rookie starting fresh or a seasoned expert hopefully you will take something or see something that will challenge and encourage you to take action on your ideas and make them true to life whatever they may be.
